Michael D. Carr is a
native Delawarean. After graduating from
Dover High School Mr. Carr graduated
from Jacksonville University in 1971. He
served as president of his class, and,
in conjunction with Ralph Nader, was the
baccalaureate speaker of 1971.
Immediately following graduation from
college, Mr. Carr was selected to head a
federally funded project by the Chief
Judge of the Family Court of the State
of Delaware known as the VIP (Volunteers
In Probation) Program. This Program
sought to have community volunteers work
with youth who had become involved in
the juvenile justice system. After
successfully spearheading this program
Mr. Carr continued with his employment
in the Family Court while attending
Delaware Law School. Mr. Carr graduated
from Delaware Law School in 1976. Mr.
Carr is a member of the Delaware State
Bar Association and is admitted to
practice before all courts in Delaware
and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Immediately following graduation from
law school Mr. Carr was appointed as an
Assistant District Attorney for Chester
County, Pennsylvania. In less than two
years Mr. Carr tried in excess of thirty
criminal jury trials winning each trial
after the first trial. Mr. Carr’s
performance in the Chester County
District Attorney’s Office resulted in
his skills quickly being recognized and
being assigned felony jury trials
throughout his second year with that
office.
Following his position with the Chester
County District Attorney’s Office, Mr.
Carr was asked to join the Law Firm of
Malcolm & Riley, located in West
Chester, Pennsylvania. With this firm,
Mr. Carr’s initial civil litigation
experience included representing
defendants in personal injury matters,
including automobile accidents. Shortly
thereafter Mr. Carr was selected to
represent individual physicians and
physician practices in the suburban
Philadelphia area who were named as
defendants in medical malpractice
lawsuits. Mr. Carr’s civil litigation
experience included trying cases in
Philadelphia County, Delaware County,
Montgomery County, Bucks County, and
Chester County as well as the U. S.
District Court for the Eastern District
of Pennsylvania. While associated with
Malcolm & Riley, Mr. Carr undertook his
first representation of a traumatically
brain injured individual before the
Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia
County. That case resulted in Mr. Carr’s
first million dollar plus award.
Mr. Carr thereafter was asked to join
the Law Firm of Bryde, Ament and Evans
located in Wilmington, Delaware. Mr.
Carr remained a partner in that firm
which later was known an Ament, Lynch &
Carr until 2000.
Mr. Carr’s practice since becoming a
member of the Delaware Bar Association
has focused on representing injured
individuals, including litigation in the
areas of the wrongful death, medical
malpractice and nursing home abuse. Mr.
Carr has also been approved as one of
the few personal injury lawyers by the
American Auto Workers Union representing
union members throughout the state.
Mr. Carr has one son, Drew Carr, a
recent graduate of Rollins College.

Litigation percentage: 90% of Mr. Carr’s
practice is devoted to litigation.

Mr. Carr conducts an active trial
practice in New Castle, Kent and Sussex
Counties, Delaware. Clients are
represented from the following areas:
Wilmington, Christiana, Newark, New
Castle, Bear, Dover, Milford,
Georgetown, Seaford, Townsend, Laurel,
Rehoboth Beach, Bethany Beach and
Fenwick Island, Delaware.
